Accepting applications for Library Director

Job Responsibilities: 

The Director is responsible for all aspects of the operation of the Forest Jackson Library, including budgeting, personnel, collection development and maintenance, building maintenance, computer and network maintenance, and programming.  Provides direct customer service, including reader’s advisory, circulation, reference services, and marketing/social media.

 

Principle Duties:                                                                                                          

  • Interview, select, orient, train, coach, and assure performance and morale of staff. Maintain staffing and performance levels through standard hiring practices, job training and performance management.
  • In tandem with the Fiscal Officer, forecast revenues and prepare annual appropriations budgets.
  • Prepare reports and recommend policies for the Board of Trustees and State Library as requested/required.
  • Approve all budget expenditures.
  • Identify and develop alternative funding sources.a
  • Assure the Library’s policies, collections, and programming support the library’s mission.
  • Assure the library building, furnishings, equipment and grounds are in good repair/order.
  • Assure conformance with all local, state and federal laws, with the county prosecutor as legal counsel.
  • Represent the library to various external constituencies, on the local, regional and state levels.
  • Attend continuing education workshops and conferences
  • Select and maintain materials collection; may delegate daily maintenance to staff.
  • Publicize library programs and resources; may delegate to coordinators and assistants.
  • Perform general library duties, customer service, and participate in library special projects as needed.

 

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Broad general business know-how, including human resource management, fiscal management, planning, and marketing.
  • Individual and team leadership skills i.e. delegation, tact, diplomacy, trustworthiness, and integrity.
  • Articulate written and oral communication skills including public speaking.
  • Analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Maintain composure in stressful work situations and serve patrons in a courteous, business-like manner, maintaining confidentiality and working relationships with the public, staff, and Board of Trustees.
  • Provide a valid Ohio Drivers’ License; pass a criminal background check (BCI/ FBI) and drug test.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Minimum educational requirement is an associate’s degree; or an equivalent level of knowledge, skills, non-degree education, and experience working in a library setting.
